The central goal of our research is to develop a better understanding of meningioma biology, including molecular signatures, which characterize high grade and brain invasive meningiomas. With respect to migration and invasion a major focus is currently laid on the role of small GTPases of the Rho-family and on integrins, which are relevant players in tumor cell motility, integrins being at the same time an interesting therapeutic target to minimize brain invasion. A second focus is laid on the pro-mitogenic axis from receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) via PI3K, Akt and mTORC1/2. Small kinase inhibitors are tested for their potential clinical benefit in intracranial meningioma mouse models.
