3# Career Talk with PhD Susan Sangha (Associate Professor, Indiana University/ US)  (English)

Topic: THE UPS AND DOWNS OF BEING AN ACADEMIC NOMAD: FROM CANADA TO GERMANY TO THE US

About our guest: Susan Sangha studied Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, and afterwards worked there as a lab technician in a learning and memory laboratory. She then went to earn her PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Calgary, focused on neural mechanisms of learning and memory. Susan then moved to Germany to work with Hans-Christian Pape, first at OVGU Magdeburg, and then WWU Münster. Her research was focused on GABAergic mechanisms in the extinction of fear learning. This was followed by another postdoc position at the University of California, San Francisco, and after a brief Research Associate position at the University of Saskatchewan, she opened her independent lab as an Assistant Professor at Purdue University. Her lab focuses on the neural circuits of safety, fear, and reward learning. In 2022, Susan moved her lab to Indiana University School of Medicine to the Stark Neuroscience Research Institute.
