Research Group Leader of Visual Attention and Perceptual Learning at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology Magdeburg and of Cognitive Neurophysiology, Medical Faculty at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg
The research of this group focuses on the spatio-temporal dynamics of space-, feature-, and object-based attentional selection in human visual cortex. This includes an interest in mechanisms of reward-dependent feature selection and in reward-driven cognitive control processes. We are also interested in cortical processes underlying visual working memory (VWM), and particularly in the relation between VWM maintenance and attentional selection in visual cortex. Our research is essentially guided by the selective tuning model of visual attention (Tsotsos, 2011) – a well recognized computational theory, that takes recurrent hierarchical processing in visual cortex as a major architectural constraint on visual attentional selection.
