The main focus of our research is the investigation of human neurophysiology by using electrical brain stimulation. In particular, we use (I) non-invasive electrical stimulation by means of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), and transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) specifically of the auditory cortex to modulate aspects of acoustic processing and speech perception. In addition, we aim to apply these approaches to clinical populations. Furthermore (II) in clinical populations, we are interested in the therapeutic success and neuropsychological side-effects of deep-brain stimulation (DBS) in several neuropsychiatric despises. To this we systematically explore how subcortical nuclei contribute to specific behavior and cognition by modulating their activity via DBSA and by directly recording LFPs from these nuclei in patients.
