Long-term plastic changes in the brain, including those supporting memory formation, are assumed to depend on functional alterations in the protein composition of neurons and their synaptic contacts. Our research aims at the identification and functional characterization of protein components and regulatory mechanisms involved in forming the molecular and cellular basis of long-lasting synaptic plasticity. Special emphasis is placed on memory-relevant synaptic proteome changes and posttranslational protein modifications.
