MRI at higher magnetic field strength allows novel insights into brain structure, function and microstructure. We develop and apply novel methodology to fully exploit the potential of high field MRI. This includes very high resolution anatomical imaging and fast and efficient high resolution fMRI. To overcome the “biological resolution limit” in human subjects due to motion, innovative prospective motion correction technology and methodology is being developed and applied. We also coordinate two large national and international ultrahigh field networks (GUFI and EUFIND) aiming at the first multi-center UHF research studies. These methods are applied in basic neuroscience and neurodegenerative disease together with our partners from the OVGU, DZNE and LIN.
