Our research objective is to study how previously learned information (e.g., reward, context) impacts the current direction of attention and decision making and how the interaction of these functions and their underlying neural correlates changes over the lifespan. Specifically we use the value-based attentional capture paradigm (Anderson et al., 2011) and the contextual cuing paradigm (Chun & Jian, 1998) in different samples of children, adolescents, younger and older subjects. We use a multimethod approach combining behavioral studies with functional and structural imaging methods. In the future we will study how the interaction of learning, attention, and reward is altered in psychopathologies such as in attentional deficit disorder and addiction.
