Constant dynamic adaptations of the protein composition support neural cells to cope with environmental changes and enable processes such as synaptic plasticity. In order to better understand the contribution of both neurons and astrocytes to synapse function and signaling cascades underlying the interplay of neural cells at the synapse, we apply NCAT (non-canonical amino acid tagging). In combination with imaging and biochemical approaches, we analyze the tight interplay of both protein translation and degradation dynamics of neurons and astrocytes at the tripartite synapse in both heath and disease.
