Research Group Leader of Neuropharmacology of Emotional Systems, Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg
Our research is focused on innate and learned emotions in laboratory rodents. Long-term goal is to better understand the role of normal and pathological emotions in modulating animals’ behavior as well as the neuropharmacological basis of these modulatory influences. In particular, we have projects focused on (1) odor-induced innate fear, (2) mechanisms of event learning (fear learning, safety learning & relief learning), and (3) role of neuropeptides in emotions (e.g., neuropeptide S & orexin). Our data may foster the development of new pharmacological approaches for the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders.
