Research Group Leader of Neuroendocrinology and Behavior, Medical Faculty at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg
We investigate the neurobiological substrate underlying learning and memory processes and the control of the endocrine stress response in laboratory rodents. Using these approaches we aim to better understand the beneficial and aversive interactions between physical and mental challenge (“stress”) and cognitive performance. To do that we employ behavioral testing, stressor exposure, and we monitor physiological and cellular parameters. Pharmacological and genetic manipulations are used to modify intra- and extracellular signaling pathways at brain level with special focus on limbic and cortical brain areas. Collaborations with colleagues within the Campus and worldwide allow us to access required animals models and technologies.
