The goal of the project is the realization of an optogenetic read/write neuroprothesis for sensory substitution. For this we will integrate flexible thin film LEDs and sensors on a flexible carrier which can be implanted on the brain. The approach enables high density arrays and in future developments also a strongly localized stimulation of neurons. At FNW/IEP we grow and process LEDs with ideal emission wavelength by a proprietary process on Si enabling the transfer of thin biocompatible GaN based LED films on the prothesis.
