Research Group Leader of Functional Anatomy and Plasticity of Auditory Cortex, Department of Systems Physiology of Learning at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology Magdeburg
One basic question in neuroscience is the relationship between the structure and function of the brain. We study this issue mainly by means of neuroanatomical but also physiological, behavioral and non-invasive imaging techniques. One of our major interests lies in the functional organization of the auditory pathway (particularly of its highest level – the auditory cortex) and the role of auditory structures in learning and memory formation. Another focus of our work is to disentangle the function of primary sensory cortices in multisensory integration processes including the organization and development of the underlying anatomical pathways and their plasticity due to sensory deprivation.
